How to Organise Your Pantry
Share
A dream of many homeowners is to have a pantry. But how do you set up a pantry to prioritise functionality? Read on and find out…
Understand and Measure Your Space
The most important thing is to know where your pantry will be. Is it a dedicated room built off the kitchen? Is it in a hallway cupboard? In a utility room? In a basement? In a garage? Once you’ve decided where you’ll be basing your pantry, you need to measure the space. Get the height, width, and depth. If the space is too snug to assemble storage while inside, make sure you also measure the dimensions of any doorways.
Pick Your Storage Shelves
I recommend the Hartleys Adjustable Wire Shelving Units. They come in multiple heights and colours to suit your décor, and there is a large clearance between shelves to ensure you can fit all sorts of boxes and jars.
Pick Your Storage Containers
We’ve all seen the gorgeous pantries on pintrest, where everything is stored in beautiful glass/ceramic jars that are all identical sizes. It’s a great goal to work towards, but you should by your storage one step at a time. Unless your pantry takes pride of place in your kitchen, guests won’t judge you for keeping your food in mismatched or original containers.
Get Out Your Label Maker
If you are decanting products into blank jars, you need to get your hands on a label maker. Then you won’t accidentally mix up the self-raising flour and the plain flour.
Choose The Right Layout
Keep heavier items at the bottom of the pantry. Keep items you frequently use at eye level. It can also help to group items, such as baking supplies or condiments together. You could create a section for products with short shelf dates, near the front of your shelving, to ensure you don’t waste food.
Pick Your Extras
Some extra pieces can really help your pantry shine. An erasable whiteboard can help you keep on top of restocking products. A forward-facing spice rack can help you get the right dried herbs and spices quickly. Plastic containers can help to collate items into groups (such as a container for all different tubs of pasta.)
Now you know how to create a fantastic pantry. Go ahead and get organising!
