Turn a bedroom into a craft room

How to Turn a Box Room into a Craft Room

Have you got a box room, spare bedroom, or guest room that is underutilised? Do your hobbies include crafts of any sorts? Learn how to turn your spare room into a crafting haven with our handy tips.

Step One – Get a Dedicated Workstation

Knitting on the living room sofa in front of the tele can be wonderfully relaxing, but some crafts, such as diamond painting or sketching, benefit from having a solid worksurface. A rectangular 4ft folding table or a square 3ft folding table are great choices if your crafting space doubles as a guest bedroom. Having someone stay over? Simply fold the table to half the size and store it away for a while. Got a permanent table already? Give it a DIY refresh with some new desk legs.

Step Two – Get Organised

Craft clutter is like no other kind of clutter. You start out with one set of crochet hooks and the next thing you know, you have carrier bags full of yarn stuffed under the bed. The ideal storage solution is going to depend on what type of crafts you’ll use the room for.

Smaller crafts like beading or polymer clay modelling? You’ll need a multitude of small boxes. Larger crafts such as knitting, dress-making, or papercrafts? It’s time to invest in some cube storage. The empty shelves are great for storing books, while the fabric storage boxes can hide clutter. You can also mix-and-match boxes, great for quickly retrieving different colour wool and fabrics.

Step Three – Get Proud

When you’ve finished a craft, shout about it! Hang your paintings on the wall and put your creations up on shelves. Admire your achievements, and then get back to creating your next great project.
