Space Saving Ideas for Small Bedrooms

Many people know the struggle of living in a small bedroom – whether that’s shared accommodation, halls of residence, or being relegated to the box room. It can make you feel like you are living in a big pile of clutter, but there are many ways you can organise your bedroom to make it a more relaxing place.

Step One – Declutter

There’s no way around it. If you are downsizing into a small bedroom, you are going to have to declutter your belongings. If you haven’t used it in a year (and it doesn’t have significant sentimental value), get rid of it.

It will save you a lot of searching time in the future, it will help your bedroom look tidier, and you might be able to sell some of it for a quick cash injection!

Step Two – Storage

If you’re living in a small room, you need vertical storage. Plastic tubs seem great, but when you stack them on top of each other, you need to constantly rearrange the piles every time you want to find something.

Level up your home storage solution with some cube storage. It’s a great way to keep your most-used items easily accessible. They also come in a range of sizes, a two-tier cube storage unit can fit into even the smallest box room bedroom.

Step Three – Go Under the Bed

If you have a space underneath your bed, it can be used for more than dust and spiders.  Our compact storage boxes with handles have a height of just 20.5cm. Top tip: put a sticky label on the front, then you know what’s inside each box before pulling them out.

Step Four – Shelving

Shelves are another fantastic use of vertical storage. Our hairpin shelf brackets can be combined with your choice of shelf, providing a visible home for those sentimental items you saved in step one.

Step Five – Separate Your Living Space

If you invite friends over to your studio flat, you can feel quite exposed. You’re entertaining in the kitchenette and your ‘bedroom’ is on full view. Provide some separation by using a room divider.  These dividers come in a range of styles, and they also foldable, meaning you can store them away when your guests leave.

There you have it! Five ways to make your small bedroom an inviting place you’ll love to return to at the end of a long day.
